Charlie Bloedon

Lecturer (KINS/REC/PE)

Charlie Bloedon is a lecturer in Kinesiology and Recreation Administration. He graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics with minors in both Chemistry and Biology. His passion for human performance in outdoor pursuits inspired him to complete his master’s degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education from the University of Maine. Charlie has been teaching and developing courses, academic minors and pathways in outdoor education, and outdoor programs for over 20 years at different institutions, including Linn-Benton Community College, Oregon State University, and the University of Maine. Charlie has also served as an educator in various professional associations including the American Mountain Guide Association, Professional Climbing Instructors Association, and wilderness medicine with Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO). Prior to becoming a part of our Cal Poly Humboldt community, Charlie worked professionally as a technical rock & mountaineering guide, served as the outdoor director at the Maine Bound Adventure Center and served as the Safety and Risk Management Consultant where he developed the Campus and Field Work safety guidelines at the University of Maine.

I enjoy bringing my professional experiences into the classroom to provide students with a better understanding of how to apply what we learn in academia to working in the field. My approach to fostering this real-world application is to incite critical thinking skills to empower students to be confident in their ability to apply their knowledge to the changing work environment.
