Eli Lankford

Associate Professor

Biography: 

Dr. Eli Lankford is an Associate Professor at Cal Poly Humboldt.  He received his BS degree in Exercise Science from the University of Utah, a MS in Health and Human Performance from The University of Montana, and a PhD in Exercise Physiology from Brigham Young University.  Dr. Eli Lankford also has supporting coursework and background in statistics and business marketing/research.   His background with business led to involvement with fitness equipment development and testing as well as research regarding efficacy of various exercise equipment.   His research interests also include, muscle physiology, metabolism, and non-traditional means of physical activity as a means of achieving fitness.  Dr. Lankford also has worked with athletic teams, especially soccer, performing position specific testing and training.  His interest in exercise and work physiology also led to numerous studies involving wildland firefighters, outdoor recreation, archery shooting performance with different gear, heat stress and thermal regulation, efficacy of supplements on cognitive performance, efficacy of various running shoes, as well as a variety of other topics. Dr. Lankford recently published a novel new algorithm for estimating energy expenditure at high walking inclines that also identified the biomechanical efficiency differences between flat and incline walking.   He is an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine and served two terms as President of The American College of Sports Medicine Northwest Chapter.
