Facilities
Located in the Health and Human Performance Institute on the 2nd level of the Kinesiology Building, the Human Performance Lab is made up of a lab which is comprised of a variety of exercise and testing equipment to assess fitness, data analysis room, laboratory classroom, computer workstations, subject changing area, and two different body composition testing rooms.
The lab has the following equipment available:
- Cosmed (field-based metabolic measures ~ to metabolic cart, GPS)
- EKG (2 Quinton Stress Test Systems)
- Exercise modes (Lode cycle ergometer, multiple types of Monark cycle ergometers, Quinton treadmills, arm/upper body ergometer, Concept II rowing erg)
- Metabolic carts (2 Parvo Medics) and canopy for resting measures
- Lactate analyzers (blood lab and portable)
- Automated BP unit (2 Suntech Tango)
- Ambulatory BP units (7 Suntech Oscar units)
- Body comp measures (bioimpedance analysis), air plethysmography (Bod Pod), underwater weighing with residual volume)
- Spirometers (lung volumes/capacities)
- Oximeter (SaO2)
- Advanced capability Polar HR monitors (e.g., R-R measurement capabilities for autonomic function assessment)
- Pedometers
- Diet Analysis software
- Biopac (= multifunction physiograph for things like: HR variability, cardiac output, galvanic skin response, lung volumes/capacities) (we have multiple units)
- Vertec (vertical jump)Accelerometer (telemetry) (tri-axial)
**Cameras and forces together enable measures of joint torques and power output at each joint
- Electrogoniometry
- Hand dynamometer (0.25 – 80 lbs)
- S-beam force transducer for force measurement (10-200 lbs)
- Dartfish software– video motion capture with digitizing
- KA Video- 2-D and 3-D video motion capture with digitizing
- Matlab software for custom data analysis
- Polygon software for integrated (kinematics, forces, torques, power) reporting and analysis
- EMGworks- for basic EMG analysis
- Accugait software- for gait and balance collection and analysis
- Weight support device
- Super lab software- for reaction time and other neuro-cognitive/motor control tasks (e.g., Stroop test)
- IMPACT neuro-cognitive test (for concussion, etc.)
- EMG
- EEG
